Frequently Asked Questions

The Alliance for Solidarity with the Sinti and Roma of Europe seeks to gather as many signatures as possible. By signing the petition, citizens declare their condemnation of ongoing discrimination and the racist stereotyping of Sinti and Roma. They also support our demands towards politicians, the media and the general public. The appeal shall be sent together with the gathered signatures to the members of the Bundestag and European Parliament, ministers, the Federal Press Office and the media.
No deadline has yet been set for the petition. Help us gather as many signatures as possible. Anyone can help us achieve this. Print out the petition form and gather signatures from your friends and acquaintances. Return the completed forms to us as soon as possible (Bündnis für Solidarität mit den Sinti und Roma Europas, c/o Stiftung Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas, Georgenstraße 23, 10117 Berlin) so that we can count the signatures and publicly communicate the total number. If you are not able to return the list by post, you can also fax it (+49 30-26 39 43 20) or scan the list and email it back to us (info@romaday.org).
The Alliance for Solidarity with the Sinti and Roma also intends to carry out its activities after submitting the gathered signatures. The primary objective is to spread public awareness about the problem of antiziganism. Sensitisation campaigns shall follow in pursuit of this aim. Plans include workshops against antiziganism in schools.
You can only sign the petition once. Although it is technically possible to sign the different petition forms at various organisations, we will regularly check the databases for double entries. This will only take place every few months as inspecting the databases for double entries is complicated, both technically and in terms of data privacy. This means we will often have to correct and slightly lower the total number of signatures. Signing multiple forms for this petition is not therefore worthwhile. However, if you have already done this, you have not caused any disruption.
In order to prevent multiple identical entries, each email address can only be used once. Spouses, couples or families that only have one email address can therefore unfortunately only sign online once. It is however possible for each person to sign the petition. Simply download the petition form and print it out. This enables the second person who was unable to sign online to sign the petition on paper.
